Biddeford, Maine (2/10/2024) – The Nichols College Women's Ice Hockey Team fell in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action to the University of New England 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Maine following two late empty net goals from the Nor'easters.
Junior goaltender
Anamary Pulgar got her second start in as many days for the Bison stopping 30 of the 31 shots she faced, finishing with a save percentage of .968%.
The teams were both held scoreless through the first period of play, before Amanda Forziati skated in on the right side of the Bison zone firing a shot over the shoulder of a sprawled out Pulgar midway through the second period of play. The goal gave UNE a 1-0 lead that they'd hold onto through the first two periods of play.
The Bison would continue holding their pressure, pulling Pulgar after a timeout with just over two minutes to play in the third period for the extra attacker. The push would prove unsuccessful as UNE would go onto score two empty net goals with under two minutes left in the game to finish with a 3-0 win for the home side. The final shots on goal finished 33-27 in favor of the Nor'easters.
Both teams went 0-3 on their powerplay opportunities. Nichols held the edge in the faceoff circle going 44-26, with senior
Grace Melanson leading the way for the Bison going 21-6 on her draws.
