NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (2/17/24) - The Nichols College women's tennis team fell to Smith College, 6-3 at the Pomfret School Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bison slide to 0-2 on the spring and 9-5 overall this season. Smith opens their spring with the victory, improving to 2-0 overall.
The Bison duo of
Johanna Schroeder and
Sofia Leonardi took the win at No. 2 doubles over Smith's Ayla Hauser and Maurielle Sauber by an 8-6 score. However, the Pioneers claimed the wins at the other two positions, giving them the early 2-1 edge moving into singles play.
In singles action, the Bison saw a second victory on the day from Schroeder after she defeated Lili Goshgarian in three sets by scores of 6-1, 6-7 and 6-1. The second win for Nichols belonged to sophomore
Charis Vogler, who took care of business against Clara Goshgarian in two sets (6-4, 6-3). Each of the remaining singles decisions went Smith's way, resulting in the 6-3 setback for the Bison.
Women's Tennis will travel to Fore Courts on Saturday, March 3
rd against Emerson College (0-4), with the match scheduled for a Noon start.
