Asper Scores Lone Goal, Gulls Top Bison

HARRISVILLE, R.I. (2/16/2024) – The Nichols College men's hockey team wrapped up their 2023-24 regular season on Friday night, as the Bison lost 6-1 to the Endicott College Gulls from Levy Rink.

Junior Carson Asper scored the lone goal for the Bison in the loss. Captain Luke Harvie and freshmen Dylan Ray tallied assists. Classmate Tyler Bost earned the start, making nine saves in the 20 minutes of action he played. Senior Mathias Backstrom played in the second period and freshmen Nick Anderson played in the third period.

The Gulls opened the scoring at the 7:35 mark of the period. Endicott tallied two more times in the period, to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room. Nichols was out shot 12-4 in the period.

The Gulls extended the lead to 4-0 less than one minute into the second period. The Bison opened the scoring at the 7:12 mark of the second period. Harvie blocked a point shot and the rebound found Ray, who sent a lead pass up to Asper, who snuck behind the defense. Asper raced into the zone and faked one way, stopped, and cut back to his fore hand. He buried the shot off the post and into the net to cut into the lead.

Endicott added two more goals in the remainder of the game, to take a 6-1 lead and win. Nichols went 0-3 on the power-play and 1-4 on the penalty kill in the loss.

The Quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Playoffs are set to take place on Wednesday, February 21, as the Bison will travel to Biddeford, Maine, as they face off against the University of New England. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
