BIDDEFORD, Maine (2/21/2024) – Despite two goals from junior
Gabe Temple, the Nichols College men's hockey team's season came to an end at the hands of the University of New England Nor'eaters on Wednesday night from Harold Alfond Forum. The Bison lost 6-3 to the Nor'easters in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals.
Temple scored two goals in the game. Senior
Quinn McCarthy scored the first goal for the Bison in his final game with the Bison. Juniors
Nathan Carl,
Josh Dickson, and seniors Dyland McMahon and
Jack Goodman also tallied assists in the game.
UNE opened the scoring at 4:29 mark into the opening frame to grab a 1-0 lead. The Nor'easters doubled up the lead with just under two minutes remaining to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
UNE scored the next two goals and took a commanding 4-0 lead over the Bison. Following a timeout from Head Coach
Alex Gacek, the Bison's effort seemed to change and McCarthy opened the scoring for the Bison. Dickson gathered in a loose puck from the end boards and whipped a pass from along the goal line that McCarthy redirected into the net. This was McCarthy's fourth goal of the season.
Nichols scored the next goal on the power-play. After a dominating power-play Temple, potted the loose puck after a pass from McMahon. This was Temple's fourth goal of the season.
UNE added two more goals in the game including an empty netter to extend their lead to 6-2. Temple scored his fifth goal with just over a minute left in the game, to make it 6-3. With the loss, Nichols's season comes to a close.
