HARRISVILLE, R.I. (11/8/2024) – Sophomore
Ema Jaskova and freshman
Kasey Litwin each scored in the game for the Nichols College women's ice hockey team as they earned a Conference of New England (CNE) win over Curry College on Friday night from Levy Rink. Nichols shut out the Colonels 2-0.
Jaskova scored her first goal of the season while Litwin scored her first collegiate goal with an empty net goal. Senior
Melissa Montesi, juniors
Avery Moriarty and
Taylor Breen all chipped in with assists in the win.
Neither team scored in the first period. Nichols opened the scoring in the second period, after Jaskova carried the puck over the blue line and into the offensive zone, when she flicked a wrist shot on goal and the net minder made the initial save and the rebound flipped up into the air and dropped on the ice behind the goalie and into the net. Nichols led 1-0 in the second period.
Curry continued to pressure the Bison, but after a side wall battle, Breen and Moriarty worked the puck out the zone. Litwin flipped a backhand towards the goal and rolled on edge into the open cage with 1:15 remaining in the game. Nichols won 2-0 over Curry.
Senior
McKenzie Muir made 25 saves in her second shut out win of the season. Muir pushed her record to 2-0 with two shutouts. Nichols went 1-3 on the power-play and were a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill.
Nichols (3-0-0, 1-0-0 CNE) will travel to Curry College for a Saturday afternoon match up. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
