Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Denied at Roger Williams, 3-0

BRISTOL, R.I. (11/6/24) – In their final road match of the season, the Nichols women's volleyball team fell in straight sets (15-25, 16-25, 14-25) to Roger Williams University on Wednesday night at the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.

The Bison fall to 5-19 (1-7 CNE) on the season, while the Hawks improve to 16-10 (6-2 CNE).

Senior Luna Colozzo was the only Bison to record double-figure kills in the effort, scoring a match-high 12 on .375 hitting. Junior Kya Burdier pitched in on all fronts with eight kills, 10 assists and a team-high nine digs, while senior Ruby St. Onge dished out 16 assists for the team lead.

The Hawks held a 10-6 edge in the opening set before flying away with the lead on a 7-0 run featuring four kills and two service aces, bringing the score to 17-6. The Bison could inch no closer than six down at 21-15, before the hosts went on to outscore Nichols 4-0 through the final moments for a 25-15 triumph.

Nichols took command early on in the second with a 6-3 lead, but eventually fell behind as Roger Williams battled back with five unanswered points to claim a 8-6 advantage. As play continued, the two teams remained neck-and-neck through the midway point, with the Hawks maintaining a two-point edge at 18-16. However, it would be all Roger Williams the rest of the way, as the Hawks finished off the set with a 7-0 run to win 25-16.

Game three once again saw the Hawks with the early 10-6 upper hand, which was accomplished with the help of seven kills and one service ace. As the action rolled on, the Bison attempted to remain within comeback range as Colozzo recorded a pair of kills, but ultimately fell short in their endeavors as Roger Williams piled on another 5-0 run to stretch their lead to 20-11. The Hawks went on to complete the sweep via a 25-14 win.

With one match left to go this season, the Bison will close out 2024 with their senior day celebration against Curry College (1-23, 0-8 CNE) at the Nichols Athletic Center this Saturday, November 9th. Opening serve for the match is set for 5:00 PM.
