BOSTON, Mass. (11/16/2024) – It took extra time for the Nichols College men's ice hockey and Suffolk University to decide Saturday's game from the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink. The Rams knocked off the Bison in five rounds of the shootout to secure the extra point in Conference of New England (CNE) play.
Senior
Gabe Temple scored his third power-play goal of the weekend, and senior
Nathan Carl added an assist. Sophomore
Nick Anderson made 30 saves in the tie for the Bison.
Neither team scored in the first 40 minutes and then it was the home team who scored 37 seconds into the third period to take a 1-0 lead. Nichols evened the score, at the 3:17 mark of the third period, with a shot off the stick of Temple. This goal came on the power-play as the Bison tied it 1-1.
Nichols and Suffolk needed extra time to determine who would secure the extra conference point. The Bison killed a penalty in overtime, but a shootout was needed to settle the score. Suffolk scored the winning tally in the fifth round of the shootout to secure the extra point for the home team.
Nichols (2-2-2, 1-1-2 CNE) will stay on the road head to ranked Curry College on Friday, November 22. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. from the Canton Ice House.
