Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Bison Top Lancers 4-1 in Opening Round of Woo Cup

WORCESTER, Mass. (11/1/2024) – Four members of the Nichols College men's ice hockey team scored as the Bison topped Worcester State University to punch their ticket to the Woo Cup Championship on Friday night from the Worcester Ice Center. Nichols won 4-1 over the Lancers.

Senior Kaiden Scott, graduate student Joey Allegrini, junior Aaron Hamel, and sophomore CJ Zezima all scored a goal in the win for the Bison. Zezima and Scott each picked up an assist for a two-point outing for the Bison. Seniors Josh Dickson and Luke Harvie, juniors Rocco Bianculli and Jack Lee all chipped in with assists in the win.

Scott opened the scoring in the first period with a goal at the 12:38 mark. Scott toured the offensive zone, before ripping a shot in the slot and beating the goalie for a 1-0 Nichols lead. The Bison took that lead into the dressing room after out shooting the Lancers 16-3.

Nichols doubled their lead just 4:22 into the second period, coming off the stick of Allegrini who scored his first collegiate goal to make it 2-0 Nichols. Lee and Dickson picked up assists on the second Bison goal. The Bison added their third goal of the game two and a half minutes later as Hamel scored his first goal since joining the Bison. Harvie and Zezima added assists on the goal.

Nichols took a 3-0 Bison lead into the second period. In the third period, the Lancers got a goal back to cut the lead to 3-1 with 5:46 remaining. At the 9:55 mark of the third period, Zezima put the game out of reach with a power-play goal to make it 4-1.

Sophomore Nick Anderson grabbed his first win of the season, making 12 saves in the game for the Bison. Nichols went 2-5 on the power-play and went 3-4 on the penalty kill.

Nichols (1-0-0) will face off against Anna Maria in the Woo Cup Championship on Sunday, November 3rd. Puck drop from the Worcester Ice Center is set for 7:40 p.m.
