AMCATs Top Bison in Woo Cup, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. (11/3/2024) – The Nichols College men's ice hockey team faced off against Anna Maria College on Sunday night in the Woo Cup championship from the Worcester Ice Center. The Bison lost the AMCATs 4-1.

Senior Josh Dickson scored his first goal of the season and the lone goal for the Bison. Sophomore Jack Lee and freshman Dimitri Voyatzis each tallied an assist on the goal. Freshman Liam Choquette made his collegiate debut, stopping 22 of 26 shots in the loss.

The Bison opened the scoring after a lengthy battle in the corner, Voyatzis slapped the puck out of the scrum to Lee. Lee skated to space and delivered a back hand to Dickson and Dickson settled the puck and ripped a shot from the high slot and picked the top right corner for a 1-0 Nichols lead.

The second and third periods were different as the AMCATS scored four unanswered goals over the next 40 minutes to seal a 4-1 victory and secure the 2024-25 Woo Cup.

For the Bison this was their first time finishing as the runner up, since the Woo Cup began in 2021-22. Bison previously had won two of the last three championship games. Winning over Anna Maria in a shootout in 2021-22 and in 2022-23 over Assumption in overtime. Nichols' Kaiden Scott was named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Nichols went 0-4 on the man advantage and 3-4 on the power-play in the loss.

Nichols (1-1-0) will hit the road and travel o newly added Johnson & Wales University to open Conference of New England (CNE) play. Puck drop on Friday, November 8th from Lynch Arena in Providence, is set for 5:00 p.m.
