DUDLEY, Mass. (10/9/24) – On Wednesday afternoon, the Nichols College women's tennis team celebrated its senior class and defeated conference opponent Gordon College 6-1 at the Robinson Tennis Courts, bringing a close to their 2024 regular season.
With the win, the Bison improve to 9-3 (6-0 CNE) overall and lock up the top seed in the 2024 CNE Women's Tennis Tournament and lands the program their first regular season championship title since the 2018-19 season. Gordon, who will play as the No. 2 seed in the tournament, drops to 6-3 (4-2 CNE) with the loss.
The Bison swept the doubles flight for the opening point of the match. Freshman
Kamora Helton and
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi won 6-2 at the top position, while seniors
Johanna Schroeder and
Antonia Carrero took flight two 6-0.
Cora Brosch and
Charis Vogler then captured the third flight 6-1, completing the sweep.
Nichols kept rolling with victories at five-of-six singles matchups. Brosch started it out with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court five, followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles from Helton. Schroeder then took the fourth flight with the 6-2, 6-1 win, as Carrero capped it off at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph. Gordon would snag a late point at No. 6 singles, confirming the 6-1 final score.
The Bison receive a bye through the opening round of the tournament and will await the winner of No. 5 Curry College (3-9, 2-4 CNE) at No. 4 Roger Williams (11-3, 4-2 CNE) for the CNE Semifinals on Thursday, October 17
th at the Robinson Tennis Courts. Opening serve is slated for a 3:30 PM start.
