DUDLEY, Mass. (10/17/24) - The top-seeded Nichols College women's tennis team dominated No. 4 Roger Williams University 4-0 in the Conference of New England Tournament Semifinal on Thursday afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
Nichols advances to their third consecutive conference championship, where they will host No. 3 seed Endicott College at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 19
th. It is also the third straight championship meeting between the Bison and the Gulls.
The Bison secured the doubles point with victories at the top two flights. Both wins came by 6-3 final scores, with freshman tandem
Kamora Helton and
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi claiming the win at the top position, and seniors
Antonia Carrero and
Johanna Schroeder winning at No. 2 doubles.
Moving into singles play, Helton increased Nichols' match lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the top position. Then, in very quick succession, sophomore
Cora Brosch pushed the Bison lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, before Carrero clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 straight set win at No. 2 singles. Having claimed the winning point, the remaining three singles matchups were left unfinished.
