Fitchburg, Mass (10/9/2024)- In a hard-fought battle at Elliot Field, the women's soccer team from Nichols College claimed a convincing 2-0 win over the Fitchburg State Falcons. Both teams came out eager to control the game, but it was the Bison who set the tone early, outshooting the Falcons 22-16.
Sophomore Megan Tucker opened the scoring for Nichols in the 10th minute, capitalizing on a well-timed assist from team captain Grace Killman to give the Bison a 1-0 lead going into halftime. The energy from the first half carried over as the Bison wasted no time after the break. Just two minutes into the second half, senior Sarah Rucci netted her first goal of the season, with Tucker providing the assist, extending the lead to 2-0.
On the defensive side, Saige Frazier had another standout performance in goal, securing her second shutout of the season and helping Nichols hold firm against Fitchburg's offensive efforts.
With this win, the Bison improve their record to 4-6-2, while the Falcons fall to 1-8-3. Nichols will return to their home field for their next game, a Senior Day celebration, where they will face Suffolk University at 11:30 a.m. The senior celebrations will take place following the match.
