Gallaudet Runs Past Nichols Football

GALLAUDET, Washington D.C. (10/5/2024) – The Nichols College football team traveled to face off against Gallaudet University on Saturday afternoon from Hotchkiss Field. Nichols lost 42-28 to Gallaudet.

Junior Ian Snow finished the game 17-30 for 198 yards and a touchdown. Snow added 54 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown. Sophomore John Gianibas rushed for 61 yards on 14 attempts and also found the endzone for Nichols. Senior Jack Morvan led the receiving core with six receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, seniors Derrick Revolus and Niko Tartagni each had seven solo tackles and 10 total tackles. Revolus also added an interception in the second quarter. Graduate student Joshua Vitti recovered a fumble in the endzone for a Nichols touchdown, while posting four solo tackles in the game.

Gallaudet opened the scoring with a six-yard rushing touchdown with four minutes to go in the opening quarter. They doubled up their lead with an 11-yard rush to open the second quarter and led 14-0. Nichols cut into the lead when Snow connected with Morvan for a 24-yard passing touchdown.

Gallaudet answered Nichols with back-to-back touchdowns less then two minutes apart for a 28-7 lead as five minutes remained in the half. Just under two minutes left in the half, Gianibas punched in a 1-yard rush, cutting the Gallaudet lead in half as they teams headed to the dressing rooms.

Nichols opened the second half scoring after freshman Nick Foynes, landed a punt at the one-yard line, and the next series, Gallaudet fumbled the ball in the end-zone, with Vitti recovering the fumble for Nichols.

Gallaudet put the game out of reach for Nichols with 11:29 remaining after a rushing touchdown. Snow scampered into the endzone to make it 34-28 Gallaudet, but the home added some insurance with a three-yard touchdown and seal the win, 42-28.

Nichols (3-2, 0-0 CNE) will head into the bye week before traveling to Bangor, Maine to open Conference of New England (CNE) against Husson University. Kick-off is slated for Saturday, October 19th at 2:30 p.m.
