Husson Tops Bison, 56-22

BANGOR, Maine (10/19/2024) – The Nichols College football team opened 2024 Conference of New England play as they travel to face off against Husson University on Saturday afternoon from the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex. The Bison lost 56-22 to the Eagles.

Graduate student Joshua Vitti led all Nichols receivers with 9 receptions for 128 yards and one touchdown. Senior Jack Morvan caught six passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. Junior Ian Snow went 12-23 for 172 yards and two passing touchdowns, as well as a rushing touchdown.

Defensively, senior Shane Roberts recorded a team high four solo tackles and three players recorded nine total tackles for the team lead. Roberts, freshman Caden Kehoe, and junior Kevin Branch all posted nine total tackles.

Husson opened the score at the 9:29 mark of the first quarter, and the Bison answered when Snow and Vitti connected for a five-yard touchdown. The Eagles responded scoring just four minutes later to retake the 14-7 lead after one quarter of play.

Husson added their third TD to open the second quarter. The Bison marched down the field and Snow scored from a yard out with 1:13 remaining in the second half, to make it 21-14. The Eagles responded before the half ended, with another touchdown with just four seconds remaining to take a 28-14 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles added 21 points in the third quarter to take a 49-14 lead into the final 15 minutes of play. Nichols scored one more time with Morvan and Snow connecting and then Snow converting the two-point conversion for a 49-22 lead for the Eagles. Husson added one more touchdown before time expired, to seal a 56-22 win for the home team and earn their first CNE win of the season.

Nichols (3-3, 0-1) will return home for Friends and Family Weekend as they face off against the University of New England on Saturday, October 26. Kick off is set for 1:00 p.m. from Vendetti Field.
