DUDLEY, Mass. (10/26/2024) – Turnovers proved costly for the Nichols College football team as they faced off against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon from Vendetti Field in Conference of New England (CNE) play. The Bison lost 51-30 to the Nor'easters.
Junior
Ian Snow and freshman
Will Migliaccio, Snow was 16-17 for 185 yards, two touchdowns and three picks. Migliaccio went 6-8 for 126 yards, two touchdowns and a pick as well. Graduate
Joshua Vitti caught five balls for 108 yards and a touchdown, while senior
Jack Morvan was held to two catches for 51 yards and ripped off a 35-yard touchdown.
Junior
Kevin Branch recorded three solo tackles and 12 total tackles to lead the way for the defense, while senior
Shane Roberts also added three solo tackles and 11 total tackles. Classmate
Derrick Revolus recorded five total tackles and added an interception, his second of the season.
UNE opened the scoring after forcing a fumble on the opening play. A short field later saw the Nor'easters grab a 7-0 lead. The Bison responded nicely, with Snow connecting with sophomore
John Gianibas for six yards, the extra point was blocked, and Nichols trailed 7-6.
UNE once again answered with a touchdown drive and then Snow connected with graduate student
Quinton Quirrenbach in the endzone. Snow made a perfect throw and dropped the pass into Quirrenbach's arms in the endzone over a diving defender. Nichols converted the two-point conversion, thanks to a rush from Snow. A UNE field goal as time expired gave the visitors a 17-14 lead into the half.
The second half, saw UNE blow the game wide open with three straight touchdowns to take a 38-14 lead. Migliaccio and Morvan connected on a 35-yard crossing route that cut into the Nor'easter's lead, making it 38-22 after the two-point conversion. UNE answered right back with a 84 yard kick-off return for a touchdown, and a 44-22 lead. Nichols scored late with a 55-yard touchdown to Vitti from Migliaccio with six minutes remaining. Nichols lost 51-30 to UNE in conference play.
The Bison (3-4, 0-2 CNE) will hit the road and travel to #11 Endicott College, next Saturday, November 2
nd. Kick off is set for 12:00 p.m. from Hempstead Stadium.
