MILTON, Mass. (10/4/24) - The Nichols College men's soccer team traveled to Walter M. Katz Field to face off against Curry College in an intense Conference (CNE) matchup Friday afternoon. Both teams came out with high energy, exchanging chances early on. Nichols registered 10 shots in the first half, while Curry fired back with 11, setting the stage for a competitive game. It was in the 32nd minute that William Pugliese-Savage broke the deadlock, netting his second goal of the season to put the Bison ahead 1-0.
Following Pugliese-Savage's goal, Nichols showcased their defensive prowess, holding off the Colonels' advances for the remainder of the first half. The Bison entered halftime with a narrow lead, but Curry College kept pushing, determined to get back into the game. Nichols' defense, a standout in the first half, held strong and managed to keep the Colonels at bay.
Curry found their breakthrough in the 56th minute with a well-timed equalizer that brought the score to 1-1. The second half saw both teams create chances, but neither side could find the winning goal despite Nichols outshooting the Colonels 24-19 by the end of the match. Both teams fought until the final whistle, but the score remained level at 1-1.
In net for the Bison, senior Franco Barreto Santana recorded 10 saves.
The draw secured the first conference point for both the Bison and the Colonels. Nichols' record now improves to 3-7-1 as they look ahead to their next match. The Bison will return home next Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff against Suffolk, where they will continue their hunt for more points in the CNE.
