DUDLEY, Mass. (10/23/2024)- The Nichols College women's soccer team faced off against the Gordon College Fighting Scots in a hard-fought matchup at home. Both teams came out with intensity, battling evenly for nearly the first 20 minutes of the match. The deadlock was broken in the 18th minute when the Fighting Scots found the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead.
The Bison responded quickly, showcasing their resilience just three minutes later. Sophomore Megan Tucker scored her third goal of the season in the 21st minute, assisted by junior Falyn Hunt and sophomore Sophia Rodriguez. This assist marked Rodriguez's third point of the season and Hunt's 20th point, as she now has 9 goals and 2 assists.
Despite the Bison's quick response, Gordon regained momentum and scored two more goals before the end of the first half, bringing the halftime score to 3-1. Early in the second half, the Scots extended their lead to 4-1 with a penalty kick. The Bison made a goalkeeper change, subbing out Hannah Deschene for Cassie Rice, who recorded three saves.
The Bison, with their relentless offensive push, outshot the Scots in the second half, demonstrating their determination. Although they couldn't convert their chances this time, the final score was 5-1 in favor of Gordon. Nichols aims to bounce back this Saturday as they head to Endicott College for a 12 p.m. kickoff, looking to improve their record and regain momentum.
