Bison Fall Short to Falcons on Senior Day

Dudley, Mass. (10/2/2024)- As the Bison honored their class of 2025 on a memorable Senior Day at Nichols College, the men's soccer team hosted the Fitchburg State Falcons in a hard-fought contest. Both teams were determined, keeping the intensity high throughout the first half. Despite several chances on both ends of the field, the score remained locked at 0-0 by halftime. The Bison's defensive line, anchored by senior goalkeeper Franco Barreto Santana who made 5 saves in 44 minutes of action, showcased their resilience and strength, holding strong through the first 45 minutes.

At the start of the second half, Nichols switched in goal, bringing on freshman Ethan Homa. However, the game's momentum shifted after the break as the Falcons found the back of the net in the 62nd minute to break the deadlock. Two minutes later, Fitchburg State capitalized on another opportunity, scoring a second goal to extend their lead to 2-0.

The Bison senior honorees in Nathan Salamon, Liam Dinnan, Nicholas De Paula, and Barreto Santana all played key roles on the day for the Bison.

Despite being two goals down, the Bison's dedication and perseverance never stopped. They continued to battle, creating chances and applying pressure on the Falcons' defense, all in to score an equalizer. However, they were unable to convert their efforts into a goal. As the clock wound down, Nichols fought to the end but ultimately couldn't overcome Fitchburg State's lead. The Bison will look to bounce back when they travel to Curry College for a CNE matchup at 4 p.m. on Friday.
