BRISTOL, RI (10/19/24)- It was a battle of the offense as the Nichols College Bison had a CNE tilt with the Roger Williams University Hawks on Saturday afternoon in Bristol. The game ended in a draw 3-3.
The teams stood scoreless for nearly the entirety of the first half until senior Liam Dinnan scored his first college goal with just under a minute to play before the halftime break.
The hometown Hawks would score two quick goals to open second-half action to take the edge 2-1. As they took that lead, the Bison responded quickly. William Pugliese-Savage followed up, saved by the Hawks netminder, who was leaving the ball in front of the net to score. The goal by Pugliese-Savage evened up the score at 2-2, with 30 minutes to play. Pugliese-Savage was not done yet, as he netted another follow-up goal to push the Bison ahead 3-2 just five minutes after his first goal.
The game appeared to be a draw, but with just two and half minutes to play, the Hawks scored the game-winner passed Bison starter Franco Barreto Santana. He made 8 saves on the outing, as the Hawks outshot the Bison 22-9.
Next up for the Bison is a home match with the Gordon College Fighting Scots. That CNE match is set for Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm in Dudley.
