Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Swept by Wheaton, 3-0

DUDLEY, Mass. (10/10/24) - The Nichols College women's volleyball team suffered a straight sets loss (14-25, 15-25, 14-25) against Wheaton College at the Nichols Athletic Center on Thursday night.

The Bison fall to 3-11 (0-3 CNE), while the Lyons improve to 7-12 (0-5 NEWMAC).

The Bison offense was limited to just nine total kills throughout the match, led by senior Luna Colozzo with nine. On the defensive end, graduate libero Liz Diorio led the way in digs with 10 on the night.

The two teams traded the first handful of points in the opening set before the Lyons pulled away with a 6-0 run to claim an 11-4 advantage. From there, the Lyons refused to let up, remaining one step ahead of the Bison on the way to a 25-14 win in the frame.

The Lyons found themselves ahead 11-5 to open the second stanza, which then grew to 16-5 thanks to a 5-0 run fueled by four straight Bison attack errors. Wheaton later claimed its largest lead of the match at 23-9, before Nichols rebounded with a 6-1 run late in the frame featuring back-to-back Mairead Frost service aces. Notwithstanding, the Lyons went on to prevail 25-15.

Leading 2-0 in the match, Wheaton grabbed another 11-3 lead in the third. Nichols was then able to get as close as three points thanks to a 7-2 run, with four of the points off serves from Cassie Durocher, but not any closer the rest of the way. Holding onto a 22-12 lead late, the Lyons ended the match with a service ace, winning the set 25-14.

Up next, women's volleyball will step away from home for a road match at Widener University (13-7, 1-2 MAC) on Friday, October 11th. Opening serve is set for 6:00 PM at the Schwartz Center in Chester, Pennsylvania.
