Men's Soccer Scores Early in 3-1 Win over University of Maine at Farmington

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/2/23) – The Nichols College men's soccer team got to work early on in a Saturday afternoon non-conference match against the University of Maine at Farmington, claiming their first win of the 2023 season by a final score of 3-1 at the Nichols Soccer Field.

With the win, Nichols improves to 1-1 on the year, while the Beavers shoulder their second setback of the season, falling to 0-2 overall.

The Bison seized complete control of the action with all three goals scored within the first 6:00 of the first half. The opener for Nichols came off the foot of sophomore forward Tristan Phillips at the 1:49 mark of play, with the assist going to freshman Juanesteban Hincapie for his first collegiate point. Shortly thereafter, junior returner William Pugliese-Savage made it 2-0 with his first goal of the season, which came off a feed by sophomore Brady Stevenson. The third and final tally of the day for the Bison belonged to junior midfielder Nicholas De Paula, which came unassisted.

The Beavers spoiled the shutout bid for freshman goalkeeper Benji Carr with a strike midway through the second half, cutting the Nichols lead down to 3-1. Despite a flurry of late chances, the Bison held strong defensively and eventually claimed the home turf victory by the same final score. For Carr, it was his first collegiate victory.

Men's soccer returns to action on Monday, September 4th for a clash with Rhode Island College at 3PM, right back at the Nichols Soccer Field.
