POSTSEASON PREVIEW: No. 5 Men’s Lacrosse Travels to No. 4 Roger Williams for CCC Quarterfinals Clash

CCC Bracket

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Nichols men's lacrosse team (10-7, 4-4 CCC) earned the fifth seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason and will travel south to face No. 4 Roger Williams (9-6, 5-3 CCC) in a Saturday 3:00 p.m. matinee at Bayside Field.

Nichols, under the direction of first-year head coach Shayne Lynch, enters the contest going 2-2 through the last two weeks of the regular season, with losses to Endicott and Western New England sandwiching wins over Wentworth and Gordon.

The Bison are led by graduate attacker Hunter Ferreira, whose 41 goals and 59 points rank in the top five in the CCC. Ferreira has attempted the most shots on goal in the conference with 151, followed behind by classmate Cian Keohane's 143.

Keohane is tied second on the squad in points, posting 35 goals and 11 assists for 46 points. Only Colby Gillis has as many points, as the junior has scored 15 goals while dishing out 31 assists. Jack Ellis' seven man-up goals help him to sit third on the squad with 26.

Cooper Melvin's 56 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers lead the squad's defensive efforts, followed by Kyle Ettenhofer's 48 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers to this point.

Brady Morgan has been solid as the last line of defense in between the pipes, leading the CCC with an 8.91 goals-against average.

Nichols and Roger Williams met earlier in the month, with the Hawks coming out of Dudley with a slim 9-8 victory on a late fourth-quarter goal from Kevin Murphy, who is tied for first on the team in points with Matt Halpin. Max Kimmel has started all 15 games in between the pipes, making 134 saves.

The winner of the matchup will face off in a CCC Semifinals tilt on Wednesday, May 3, with an opponent and time to be determined.
