WENHAM, Mass. – The Nichols women's lacrosse team came home from the North Shore with a 14-10 victory over Gordon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday afternoon at the Brigham Complex. With the win, Nichols now sits at 10-5 (2-5 CCC), while the Fighting Scots dropped to 7-8 (2-5 CCC).
After the Fighting Scots scored just over five minutes into the contest to open the scoring, Nichols would respond with four goals in a row to take a 4-1 lead with 5:20 to play in the first quarter. Gordon would strike twice more before
Elizabeth Luster scored her second of the opening frame with just 17 seconds left to put the Bison up 5-3 after one.
Luster would complete her hat trick under a minute into the second to put the visitors up by three. Two Gordon goals in 44 seconds would cut the deficit to one, but
Hadley Houghton's two goals and
Emma Patton's unassisted tally would put the Bison up 9-5 at the half.
Coming out of the half, Nichols would score four straight, with a natural hat trick coming from
Mackenzie Doran following
Caitlin Welch's first of the contest. The home team would string together a 4-0 run over the final 3:38 of the third to once again cut the deficit down, this time to a 13-9 score.
In the fourth, both teams would muster a single goal per side as the Bison won their 10th game of the season, and second in conference play.
Doran (4-0-4) and Houghton (3-1-4) lead the scoring efforts with four points apiece. Luster's hat trick would land her second in points on the afternoon for the Bison.
Emma Patton and
Paige Alexander would each record a goal and an assist while
Madison Robichaud and Welch rounded out the offensive supply.
Keri Tremblay stood tall in net, making 10 saves between the pipes in the victory.
Nichols outshot the Scots, 39-25, while putting 30 shots on goal. The Bison went 16 for 19 on clears while winning the ground ball battle 26-24. The Bison won 16 of the 28 total draws, with Hougton and
Mackenzie Muir each tallying 5.
The Bison will wrap up their regular season with a mid-week match in Springfield, as they travel to face the Golden Bears of Western New England on Wednesday, April 16 at Golden Bear Stadium.
