DUDLEY, Mass. – On an afternoon honoring lone senior
Grant Garcia, the Nichols men's tennis team downed Western New England by a final of 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts. The Bison wrapped up their regular season with an 11-9 overall record and a perfect 8-0 ledger in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) to own the top seed heading into the postseason. The Golden Bears finish their campaign 2-11 (1-7 CCC).
Nichols got out to a 2-1 lead following doubles play as the Bison earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 as
Leon Zeis and
Frederik Bertrams held down the first court by a score of 8-4, and
Ludwig Schlatzer and
Yannick De Vet swept their second court counterparts.
The Bison took a 3-1 advantage when
Oscar Junyent won at No. 5 singles in a straight sweep. From there, Nichols would earn wins from
Enzo Matos Balleux,
Trevor Schwarzmann, Schlatzer, and
Santiago Perez to seal a 7-2 victory and seal a perfect season in league competition.
Nichols has now won the CCC regular-season title for the seventh time and, after receiving a first-round bye, will await Saturday's quarterfinal winner between No. 4 Endicott vs. No. 5 Wentworth in the semifinal round on Wednesday, April 26 at a time to be announced.
