NEWPORT, R.I. – The Nichols men's tennis team remained perfect in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play through seven contests with a 9-0 victory over Salve Regina on the road on Saturday afternoon. The win pushed Nichols to 10-8 (7-0 CCC) and secured the Bison as the No. 1 seed throughout CCC postseason play. Salve Regina fell to 4-6 (3-4 CCC) in the decision.
Nichols won in order in a sweep of doubles play to begin the match with a 3-0 lead.
Leon Zeis and
Frederik Bertrams teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1, followed by
Ludwig Schlatzer and
Yannick De Vet's 8-0 victory at the second court, while
Santiago Perez and
Caio Dieckmann rounded out the doubles action at No. 3 with an 8-2 victory.
In singles action,
Enzo Matos Balleux kicked things off with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at court five, followed by Schlatzer's 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 to clinch the match. From there, De Vet downed his opponent 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, Dieckmann earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 3, and the Bison's ace
Trevor Schwarzmann capped the victory off with a 6-1, 6-2 decision.
Nichols enters the final week of the regular season with ten overall wins and looks to add to that in a non-conference matchup at Coast Guard on Monday, April 17 before capping on the season against Western New England on Wednesday at home.
