MILTON, Mass. – The Nichols men's lacrosse team used a hat trick from the duo of
Hunter Ferreira and
CJ Cadigan, along with 16 saves from
Brady Morgan, to push past Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday night at Walter M. Katz Field. Nichols now sits at 8-5 (2-2 CCC), while Curry slips to 4-8 (1-4 CCC) on the year.
The Bison came out of the gates firing, picking up the first six goals of the contest in the opening 9:22 of play coming off the sticks of five different goal scorers. Curry later answered with 4:15 remaining when Stephen Stackhouse beat Morgan to put Curry on the board and cut the deficit to five. Cadigan would then score his second of the period just 1:13 later before Brody Dalzell answered to make it 7-2 after 15 minutes of play.
Ferreira kicked off the scoring in the second quarter, capping off his hat trick on a man-up goal 35 seconds into the frame. Curry could only stifle one goal in the second, as the Bison added two more to lead 10-3 at the half.
The second half saw much less scoring, as either side could only muster a single goal, including Cadigan's third of the night scored with 6:27 remaining in regulation. Morgan stood tall in net, making 8 saves in the second half to help the Bison defense lock down the team's second conference win of the season.
Colby Gillis' four-assist effort tied Cadigan (3-1-4) with four points on the night, while
Ryan Warner (0-3-3),
Jack Ellis (2-1-3), and Ferreira (3-0-3) each followed that up by recording three points apiece.
Nichols was nearly perfect in clearing out from behind its restraining line, going 14 for 15 on clears. The Bison edged Curry in ground balls (29-27) and faceoffs (9-8).
Travis Arnold was faced with the brunt of the faceoff duties, winning nine of 17 tries.
The Bison return home on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., and in continuation of its CCC slate, will host the Gulls of Endicott on Senior Day at Vendetti Field.
