BEVERLY, Mass. – The Nichols men's tennis team took a 3-0 lead into singles and won at No. 1 and No. 3 en route to a 7-2 victory over Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Tuesday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts. With the win, Nichols bumped above .500 at 9-8 overall, while remaining perfect in CCC play at 6-0. The host Gulls fell to 5-7 (3-1 CCC).
Santiago Perez and
Caio Dieckmann kicked things off with an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles to put the Bison out in front. Nichols used an 8-6 win from the No. 1 tandem of
Leon Zeis and
Frederik Bertrams to double the Bison lead before
Ludwig Schlatzer and
Yannick De Vet grinded out an 8-7 (7-3) victory at No. 2 to send Nichols to singles play up by three.
Trevor Schwarzmann cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at first court singles before Bertrams downed his opponent at No. 3 by a score of 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the match.
After Endicott earned their only wins at No. 4 and No. 2, respectively, the Bison finished the match off by picking up the final two points. Perez and Hudson De Risi fought to the very end in a 1-6, 6-3, 12-10 decision at No. 6 before Schlatzer concluded the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 decision on the fifth court.
The Bison look to continue their winning ways in a Saturday doubleheader in the Ocean State, first with a CCC match at Salve Regina in Newport at noon before taking on Division I opponent in Bryant at 4:00 p.m. in Smithfield.
