Baseball Falls In Non-Conference Clash with Wheaton (MA)

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — The Nichols College baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup against the Wheaton at the New England Baseball Complex on Friday afternoon by the score of 11-5. With the loss, the Bison drop to 1-3 (0-0 CCC) and the Lyons open up their season 1-0 (0-0 NEWMAC).

Wheaton got out to a commanding 9-0 lead through four complete innings, including three home runs over that stretch. The Bison climbed their way back with a leadoff single from Noah Hickey, followed up by Johnny Knox getting on via an error. Brennan Hyde hit a single to center, which allowed for one run to cross the plate. Cameron Guerrera followed up with a three-run home run of his own to bring the Bison within five runs.

Despite the burst of offense, the Lyons' pitching would not allow for a Bison comeback. Wheaton would go on to tack on two more runs off a Robert Wirtanen two-run homer. The Bison would add one more run to the books due to Stanley Cipkas scoring on a wild pitch.

Zach Clesas earned his first win of the campaign, going 6 full innings, allowing just 4 hits, 4 run, and 0 ER, while striking out seven Bison batters. On the other side, John Pollock picked up the loss despite pitching just one inning.

The Bison get another crack at Wheaton on Monday, March 6th at the New England Sports Complex at 3:00 p.m.
