TOWSON, Md. – The Nichols men's lacrosse team outscored Goucher 7-1 in the second half to erase a 3-point halftime deficit and down the Gophers by a score of 15-12 on Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field. With the win, Nichols advanced to 6-2 while Goucher dropped to 2-6.
The Bison hopped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, as four different scorers tallied goals to put the visitors in front after 15 minutes. Goucher used a 10-goal surge in the second quarter to jump out to an 11-8 lead at the half, with Ben Smith and Jacob Morgan each recording a hat trick in the frame.
Nichols would tie the game up on three straight goals over the opening 9:17 of the third quarter, with
Cian Keohane scoring twice and
CJ Cadigan also finding the back of the net over that span. In the fourth, Keohane would score two of the Bison's final four goals as Nichols completed the comeback to earn the win on the final game of the team's spring break trip.
Hunter Ferreira was the leading point scorer in the road victory, netting four goals while dishing out three assists. The graduate student also caused two turnovers and scooped three ground balls.
Ryan Warner contributed four points with three goals and an assist, with five ground balls.
Travis Arnold was the main face-off taker for the Bison as he won 16-of-25 draws with seven ground balls.
Earning his sixth win of the season was goalkeeper
Brady Morgan, who made 5 saves in 60 minutes of action in the crease.
The Bison return to New England and will face off with the Owls in a road matchup at Keene St. on Wednesday, March 22 at 4:00 p.m. at the Owl Athletic Complex in Keene, N.H.
