BRISTOL, R.I. — The Nichols women's basketball program fell short in a 104-78 decision in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) closer against Roger Williams at the Campus Rec Center Gym. With the loss, Nichols fell to 7-18 (5-13 CCC) while the Hawks improved to 22-3 (18-0 CCC).
The Bison saw points from six different scorers in the first quarter but found themselves trailing 21-18 at the end of the frame.
The Hawks opened the gap in the second quarter, paced by Katie Galligan (11) and Caroline Elie (8). Roger Williams outpaced the Bison 36-18 in the frame to take a commanding 57-36 lead going into the break.
The second half saw the Hawks run away, outscoring the Bison 47-40. The Hawks out-rebounded the Bison 64-24 and used 74 points in the paint to close out the game.
Junior Abrianna Vazquez led the Bison with 26 points, while senior Kiera Fernandes wasn't far behind with 25 points.
Nichols will get another shot at the Hawks on Tuesday, February 21 in the CCC Tournament Championship Quarterfinal round back in Bristol, R.I. at 6 p.m.
