NEWPORT, R.I. – The Nichols men's basketball team claimed another Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory on Wednesday night over Salve Regina by the score of 102-72. With the win, the Bison improved to 19-5 (15-2 CCC), while the Seahawks fell to 9-15 (7-10 CCC).
Nichols got out to a ten-point lead early, thanks to a 12-2 run, but the Seahawks cut the lead to within four right before the half. A
Ty Rucker layup with seven seconds remaining before the break gave Nichols the 45-39 halftime lead. Rucker paced the Bison in the first half with 12 points.
Nichols began to pull away in the second, going on a 21-4 run to start the half to extend their lead to 66-43. The Bison never looked back, as the trio of Rucker,
Quincy Ferebee, and
Tavon Jones all scored in double-digits in the half to give the Bison the 30-point win and extend their win streak to 13.
Rucker finished the game with a team-high 29 points. Ferebee stuffed the stat sheet with 24 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Jones collected a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The Bison shot 43-80 (53.8%) as a unit, while out-rebounding Salve 50-36.
The Bison wrap up their regular season on Saturday, February 18, when they travel to Bristol, R.I. to take on Roger Williams with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
