BRISTOL, R.I. - The Nichols men's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 88-71 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over Roger Williams on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bison finish the regular season with a 20-5 (16-2 CCC) record, while the Hawks fell to 13-12 (10-8 CCC). With the win, Nichols secured the CCC regular-season title, the ninth season in a row that they have earned at least a share of the CCC's top-seed.
The Bison jumped out to an early seven-point lead, but Roger Williams fought back to tie the game up at 38 with just over five minutes remaining in the half. Nichols would finish the half on an 11-3 scoring run to take a 49-41 before the break. Nichols had a very balanced scoring attack in the first, with Tavon Jones, Matthew Alectus, and Quincy Ferebee all leading the way with nine points each.
Nichols began to pull away in the second half, using a 13-2 run to extend their lead to 71-52. The Bison were able to control the game the rest of the way, never letting Roger Williams pull within single-digits, eventually securing the 17-point victory.
Ty Rucker and Jones led the scoring for the Bison with 17 points apiece. Alectus and Ferebee each chipped in with 16 of their own, with Alectus also adding 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Nichols out-rebounded Roger Williams 51-34 en route to the team's 14th-straight victory.
The Bison look to win their sixth-straight CCC Tournament Championship this upcoming week, opening up with the #8 Gordon in the Quarterfinal Round on Tuesday, February 21 with the tip set for 7:00 p.m. from the Nichols Athletic Center.
