Bison Comeback Falls Short Against #12 UNE, 3-2

BIDDEFORD, M.E. (12/2/23) – The Nichols College men's hockey team fell short of a comeback on Saturday evening as they lost 3-2 to #12 University of New England at Harold Alfond Forum in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Sophomore Jack Lee and freshman Myles Mason each scored for the Bison. Junior Josh Dickson tallied assists on both Bison goals and Nathan Carl also pitched in with an assist as well for Nichols. Junior Tyler Bost made 35 saves in the loss for Nichols.

The Bison opened the scoring in the first, at the 10:36 mark of the period. Dickson received an outlet pass from Carl and raced over the blue line into the offensive zone. He fired a shot that was directed away by the netminder right to Lee. Lee one timed the drifting puck past the goalie for a 1-0 Nichols lead. This was Lee's second goal of the season.

UNE responded with a goal of their own to make it 1-1 through 20 minutes. The Nor'easters added two goals in the second period to make it 3-1 through 40 minutes of play.

Nichols cut into the UNE lead thanks to Mason. Dickson grabbed a loose puck following a UNE turnover and on the counterattack with Mason, a 2 on 1, Dickson sent a pass to Mason, whose wrist shot beat the goalie for the second Bison goal and Mason's first collegiate goal.

The Bison continued to add pressure, but a couple of late penalties ended momentum for the Bison as they lost 3-2 to #12 UNE. Nichols went 0-2 on the power-play but were a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill.

Nichols will get back to action on Tuesday evening when they face off against Worcester State on December 5. Puck drop from Levy Rink is set for 7:40 p.m.
