#15 Gulls Hold Off Bison, 3-1

HARRISVILLE, R.I. (11/4/23) – The Nichols College women's hockey team faced off against #15 Endicott College on Saturday afternoon from Levy Rink in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action. The Bison lost 3-1 to the Gulls on the second half of the home and home series.

Senior Grace Wiggett scored the lone Bison goal on a short-handed breakaway in the second period. Junior McKenzie Muir posted another stellar performance making 41 saves in the loss for the Bison.

The Gulls opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first period to grab a 1-0 lead. The Gulls carried play for the remainder of the period and into the second period as well. Endicott doubled their lead at the 5:20 mark of the second. The Gulls outshot Nichols 30-8 through two periods of play.

The Bison pulled themselves within one goal thanks to Wiggett. Wiggett won a wall battle and kicked the puck to her stick as she raced past the Gulls defender into the offensive zone. Wiggett glided into the slot and ripped a wrist shot over the shoulder of the netminder. This was Wiggett's second goal of the season.

Nichols continued to add chances in the third period but were unable to find the back of the net. The Gulls added some insurance with their third goal of the afternoon. The Bison lost 3-1 for their first loss of the season.

Nichols (3-1-0, 1-1-0 CCC) will continue conference action next week as they play host to Suffolk University on Friday, November 10. Puck drop is set for 5:40 p.m.
