CANTON, Mass. (11/17/23) – Behind goals from seniors
Dylan McMahon and Sebastian Meidema, the Nichols College men's hockey team upset #15 Curry College on Friday night from the Canton Ice House in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, 2-1. The win snaps a 10 game losing streak against the Colonels.
For the Bison it is their first win over a ranked opponent since February 8
th, 2020 when they upset #6 UNE. The Bison saw goals from McMahon and Meidema, while junior

Jack Lee and freshman
Zac Gmerek all tallied assists in the win.
McMahon scored his third goal of the season to open the scoring for the Bison. Nichols cycled the puck from low to high and then a wrap a around pass found Lee. Lee passed back to up to the point and Gmerek fired a low shot that was deflected by McMahon passed the netminder over his right shoulder for a 1-0 lead. Will the primary assist, Gmerek registered his first collegiate point.
The Colonels pulled level six minutes later following a wrist shot and rebound put back with 8:18 remaining in the first period. This ended up being the only marked for the hosts. Curry outshot the Bison 16-7 in the first period.
Nichols regained a one goal lead with 11:29 remaining in the second period. Following the face-off to start some 4 on 4 play, there was a stalemate that led to a blocked shock and the Bison grabbing the loose puck. Carl slid a pass over to Meidema who circled his net to begin the rush. He carried over center ice and into the offensive zone before darting along the goal line and burying the puck into the net for a 2-1 lead. This was Meidema's first goal with Nichols.
Both teams traded chances, but neither was able to score, and the Bison hung on to win 2-1 for their second CCC win of the season. Junior
Tyler Bost made 33 tops on 34 shots to earn his first win of the season. Nichols as a team was 5-5 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the player advantage.
Nichols (2-3-1, 2-2-1) will look to earn a sweep as they welcome the Colonels to Levy Rink for a Saturday afternoon matchup. Puck drop is slated for 4:40 p.m.
