#15 Curry Slips Past Nichols 3-2

HARRISVILLE, R.I. (11/18/23) – The Nichols College men's hockey team fell 3-2 to #15 Curry College on Saturday afternoon from Levy Rink. The Colonels scored two goals in four minutes to grab the 3-2 lead and hang on for the win.

Junior Josh Dickson and freshman Zach Vandale each scored goals for the Bison. Junior Nathan Carl tallied two assists while Vandale and Dickson each added assist as well. Junior Tyler Bost posted 29 saves in the effort for Nichols.

After both teams were held scoreless in the opening 20 minutes. The Colonels out shot the Bison 13-5 in the first period, but they remained tied 0-0.

The Colonels opened the scoring 6:26 into the game for a 1-0 lead and give them their first lead of the weekend series. Nichols pulled themselves even one minutes later. Dickson received a cross ice pass and raced over the line into the offensive zone. With a step on the defender, Dickson ripped a wrist shot underneath the glove hand of the net minder and into the net for a 1-1 tie. This was Dickson's first goal of the season, while Carl and Vandale added assists on the goal.

With the teams tied headed to the final 20 minutes of action, it was Vandale who broke the tied and give the Bison a lead. Carl controlled the puck and stick handled through the offensive zone and sent a shot on goal. Vandale followed up the rebound with a slap shot from the slot and beat the Curry net minder. This was Vandale's first collegiate goal.  Nichols led with 5 minutes remaining in the game.

The Colonels tied the game one minute later on the power-play to make it 2-2. The Colonels then grabbed the lead with 2:11 remaining in the game. Nichols trailed 3-2 and pulled the goalie for the extra attacked. Nichols was unable to find the back of the net and lost 3-2 to #15 Curry.

Nichols will continue Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action after Thanksgiving Break. The Bison welcome the University of New England to Levy Rink on Friday evening, December 1. Puck drop is set for 5:40 p.m.
