EAST BOSTON, Mass. (10/7/23) – The Nichols College men's soccer team drew with the Suffolk University Rams, 1-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park. With the draw, Nichols moves to 6-4-2 (1-1-2 CCC) and the Rams move to 7-3-2 (2-0-1CCC) on the season.
The Rams opened the scoring after Brady Sorenson flicked his header into the back of the net off a long throw from Tommy Handelsman in the 4th minute to give Suffolk the early 1-0 lead. The Bison remained quiet until the 30
th minute when
Daniel Halliman played a long through ball into
Brady Stevenson who was fouled leading to a penalty kick.
William Pugliese-Savage stepped up to the spot and calmly place his shot into the bottom right side of the goal to equalize the score at 1-1. The goal was Pugliese-Savage's 10th of the year, and he continues to lead the CCC in goals and points.
The Bison were forced into a defensive role in the second half due to the high press of the Rams. Despite having a small amount of possession, the Bison attack came back at the Rams countless times with threatening counterattacks. However, neither side was able to break the deadlock and the teams split the points.
Goalkeeper
Franco Barreto Santana recorded 10 saves and was a key player in the Bison's buildup play.
The Men's Soccer Team returns to action this Tuesday October 10th as they are set to host the Roger Williams University Hawks at the Nichols Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 3 PM.
