DUDLEY, Mass. (10/17/23) – After 47 minutes of scoreless action freshman
Katherine Hearn broke a 0-0 tie as the Nichols College field hockey team topped Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 1-0 win on Tuesday afternoon. Nichols earned their first conference win of the season.
Hearn scored her second goal of the season in the fourth quarter with 12 minutes remaining in the game and what became the eventual game winner. Junior
Merle Steinau added an assist on the goal.
The Bison controlled the pace of the play for the majority of the first half but were unable to find the back of the net. Nichols controlled the shots as well with an 11-0 advantage.
The Bison finally cashed in, with 12 minutes to go in the game. Nichols earned a penalty corner and after an inbound pass, Steinau slid a pass over to Hearn who ripped a shot past the net minders for a 1-0 lead. Junior
Sophia Venable made one save in the game to keep the clean sheet for the Bison.
Nichols will get back to action on Saturday, October 21 against Western Connecticut State. Game time is set for 5 p.m. from Vendetti Field.
