BOSTON, Mass. (10/14/23) - The Nichols College women's volleyball team fell to CCC opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 3-0 score on Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium.
 With the loss, the Bison fall to 11-7 (0-4 CCC) overall on the season. The Leopards improve to 15-5 (3-0 CCC) with the victory.
 Freshman
Maille Ianniruberto led the Bison hitting .455 on the afternoon with 7 kills on 11 total attempts. Sophomores
Kya Burdier and
Ruby St. Onge each contributed 12 assists, while libero
Liz Diorio tallied 14 digs defensively. Â
A pair of kills by
Mairead Frost helped Nichols secure the first trio of points in the opening set, but an early 5-0 run by the Leopards quickly saw the hosts in the lead by a 7-4 margin. From then onward, the Bison would continue to stay within range of a comeback but fail to reclaim the lead, Â pulling to within three points of Wentworth late in the frame. However, Wentworth would snag four of the final five points scored, earning themselves the first set win.
In the second set, Wentworth eliminated a 3-2 Bison lead early on to claim their own six-point lead, 9-3, off of seven unanswered strikes. Through and through, the Bison struggled to find their offensive groove, falling as far back as 19-5 as the Leopards continued to collect points. Wentworth went on to win the second set 25-9.
The third set saw the Leopards strike first, but the first 15 points would see three ties and four lead changes between the two clubs. With a 13-11 lead in hand, Wentworth continued on to outscore the Bison 10-3 to boost their lead to 22-14, ultimately winning it all by a 25-18 score.
Nichols women's volleyball returns home this Monday, October 16
th for a matchup against non-conference opponent Anna Maria College. The match is set to start at 6:00 PM.
