Senior Day Perfection for Women's Tennis

Dudley Mass. (10/14/23). – The Nichols Women's Tennis Team hosted two Commonwealth Coast Conference foes for Senior night on Friday in Dudley. The Bison outscored their opponents 18-0 on the day by virtue of two clean sheet 9-0 victories over the Curry College Colonels and the Suffolk University Rams.
 
With the wins, Nichols now moves to 7-2 on the season, with a 4-1 record in the CCC.
 
Prior to the match, Nichols College Division of Athletics and the Women's Tennis program acknowledged and honored two graduating seniors for the class of 2024. Jordan Knowles and Kelley Carlin have served as team captains their junior and senior years for the Bison, and are doubles partners this season. Kelley is a general business major here on the hill, with concentrations in real estate, entrepreneurial management, and social media marketing. During her time on the courts, she has accumulated a 10-6 record in singles play so far, and a 27-20 record in doubles action with various Bison. She has been a CCC all-conference honoree every year. Jordan is a finance major, and criminal justice minor at Nichols. During her time on the courts, in doubles action she holds a 30 and 20 record, and in singles she is 18-20 all time. She was named to both the singles and doubles CCC third team as a freshman, CCC academic all-conference, second and third team as a sophomore, and CCC third team doubles as a junior.
 
How it Happened:
 
Match one vs. Curry
 
The Bison came out flying In doubles action all 3 Bison duos winning their matching with a commanding 8-2 margin. with Antonia Carrero / Charis Vogler picking up the victory at #1 doubles, team captains and senior night honorees Kelley Carlin /Jordan Knowles winning at #2 doubles and Sophia Leonardi / Johanna Schroeder getting the win at #3 doubles.
 
In singles action, the Bison came out in commanding fashion sweeping the Colonels, including Kelley Carlin who saw her first singles action this season, and won 6-0, 6-0 in the number six position.
 
The match was the 5th consecutive 9-0 victory for the Bison over Curry, who haven't fell to the Colonels since September 2006.
 
Match two vs.  Suffolk
 
In the second matchup of the Bison doubled header, we got to see a new crop of Bison in action. In doubles, Kelley Carlin / Antonia Carrero won 6-1 at number one, Jordan Knowles / Erin Helley won 6-0 at number two, and Kiley O'Brien / Catherine Pollock won 6-1 at number three.
 
In singles action we saw season debuts for junior Bethany Prendergast at number three winning 6-0, 6-0, and junior Kiley O'Brien who won 8-2 at number four singles. The match was collegiate debuts for freshmen Erin Helly and Mary Hough who won 8-0 and 8-1 respectively at five and six singles.
 
The women's tennis team returns to action tomorrow (Saturday) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference road match against Gordon College. The match is set for 11:00am at the Brigham Complex.
