Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Breen, Calabro Each Score in 2-1 Win Over Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. (10/10/23) – Sophomore Taylor Breen scored the go-ahead goal at the 13:13 mark of the fourth quarter, as the Nichols College field hockey team snapped their five-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Cougars of Clark University on Tuesday evening from the Granger Athletic Complex.

Breen scored her team leading eighth goal of the season and the eventual game winning goal. Freshman Sofia Calabro scored her fourth goal of the season as well for the Bison.

Calabro opened the scoring in the first quarter for Nichols. The first-year player grabbed a lead pass and carried the ball down the field before smashing a shot past the goalie from the top of the arch, giving Nichols a 1-0 lead just 2:07 into the game.

Clark responded back just six minutes later to pull even at 1-1 in the opening quarter. Both teams continued back and forth pressure without either team finding the back of the net, into the final quarter of play.

Breen found of the back of the net after her initial shot has been stopped by the net minder. Breen scored with 13:13 remaining the fourth quarter but broke a 1-1 tie, eventually pushing Nichols to a 2-1 win.

Junior Sophia Venable made six saves in the win for Nichols and earned her fourth win of the season.

Nichols will get back to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Springfield to take on the Golden Bears of Western New England. That game is set to start at 4 p.m.
