Women's Hockey Takes Down Concordia Wisconsin 4-1 Behind Bakopanos' 53 Saves

ST. PAUL, Min. - The Nichols College women's ice hockey team bounced back in a big way on Saturday, as they knocked off Concordia Wisconsin 4-1 in the Bethel University Showcase. With the victory the Bison improved their record to 3-9-1.

Concordia Wisconsin controlled most of the first period, holding a 26-5 advantage in shots. That was before Katherine Segalla put the Bison on the board with an unassisted goal 13:03 into the first. The goal was Segalla's 1st of the season.

The score remained 1-0 late into the second period, when Avery Moriarty put one past the goalie to extend the lead to 2-0. The Bison continued to pour it on, as Megan Buxton found the back of the net with just 13 seconds left in the second period. The goal was Buxton's 5th of the year.

The Falcons would finally get on the board 5:12 into the third period, to get within 2.  Nichols punched right back 64 seconds later as Grace Melanson netted her 5th goal of the year as well, tying Buxton for the team lead. Nichols was able to hold off Concordia Wisconsin the rest of the game, as they head back home to Massachusetts with a 4-1 victory.

Sophomore netminder Victoria Bakopanos was outstanding, finishing the game with a career-high 53 saves. The effort was enough to give Bakopanos her second win of the season.

Nichols takes the ice next on Friday, January 16 against conference opponent Curry College, in Canton, Mass.
