Women's Hockey Drop First Game in Minnesota to Marian, 2-1

ST PAUL, Minn. - The Nichols College women's hockey team dropped their first game of the new-year to Marian at the Bethel University Showcase in St. Paul, Minnesota on Friday night. The bison fall to 2-9 (1-6 CCC), while Marian picks up their first win of the campaign.
 
After a scoreless first period, Marian opened the scoring with a goal 3:16 into the second. Marian wasted no time in making it a two-goal game, finding the back of the net again just a minute later. Nichols found themselves on the power-play twice in the second period but failed to convert both times.
 
The Bison got on the board 5:27 into the third period with a goal from Isabella Portt assisted by Grace Melanson The goal was Portt's 4th of the season, tying her for the team lead. Melanson picked up her 3rd assist of the year to give her a team-leading 7 points. Nichols went on the power-play once again in the third but failed to capitalize.
 
Marian was able to keep Nichols off the scoreboard for the rest of the third period, sealing a 2-1 victory.
 
Goalie Victoria Bakopanos tallied 29 saves on the night for the Bison.
 
Nichols will look to bounce-back tomorrow night in Minnesota as they take on Concordia Wisconsin at 2 p.m. eastern.
