Women's Hockey Shuts Out Salve En Route to 2-0 Win

Middletown, R.I. – The Nichols women's hockey team shutout Salve Regina on Saturday night en route to a 2-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory. With the win, the Bison improve to 5-13-1 (3-10 CCC), while the Seahawks fall to 8-12-0 (3-10 CCC).

Nichols got on the board in the first period, as senior forward Kayla Currin got her own rebound and snuck one past the goaltender to give Nichols the 1-0 lead. The goal was Currin's second of the season and 10th of her career.

The game would remain 1-0 for the next 35 minutes until Isabella Portt of the Bison buried a short-handed goal late in the third to seal with win for Nichols. The insurance goal was Portt's fifth of the season, placing her in a tie for the team lead.

Netminder Victoria Bakopanos was stellar for the Bison, tallying 31 saves in the win. The performance was good for Bakopanos' second shutout of the season. Grace Wiggett, Avery Moriarty, Grace Melanson, and Currin all picked up assist on the two Nichols goals.

Nichols takes the ice again on Tuesday, January 31 when they travel to New London, Conn. to take on Connecticut College with the puck set to drop for 7:00 p.m.
