Men’s Volleyball Picks Up Wins Over Elms and Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – Nichols men's volleyball headed to Nashua, N.H. to face Elms and Rivier in a tri-match and left Muldoon Gymnasium with two victories.
 
The Bison picked up the pair of victories by set scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-19 over the Blazers and 18-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-17 over the Raiders, evening out the team's record at 3-3.
 
Nichols will return to action on Tuesday, January 31 in another road test against non-conference opponent, Regis. First serve from Higgins Court is set for 7 p.m.
 
Nichols 3, Elms 0
 
Using a widespread offensive attack, Nichols swept Elms in the opening matchup of the day.
 
Leading 10-5 in the first, Nichols took six-straight points on kills and service aces to put themselves in a comfortable 16-5 lead and never looked back.
 
Using three kills from Nick Martin and Connor McCabe each, Nichols raced by Elms in the second set, despite a late push from the Blazers.
 
Jake Harasyko and KG Bennett notched three kills apiece in the third to go with four team service aces to push the Bison to the sweep.
 
Nichols hit .349 as a team while limiting Elms to just .076. Cody Porter led all players with three aces, while Dylan Urbanski dished out 26 assists in the win.
 
Nichols 3, Rivier 1
 
The Raiders recorded 12 kills in the first set, and ended the frame in convincing fashion, rattling off four-straight points to take down Nichols 25-18, giving themselves a 1-0 advantage.
 
To start the second set, the Bison went on a 5-0 run, capped off by two Dylan Urbanski service aces. Nichols would open up the lead to 13-3 on a block by Jake Harasyko and Tanner Soracco. With Nichols leading 21-12, the two teams traded points the rest of the way as Nichols tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-16 set victory.
 
Nichols used a pair of Urbanski service aces to get on a run again in the third, as the junior helped put the road team up 9-6. A Carlos Mercado kill on the next rally would give the Bison a four-point lead. Nichols would capitalize on two-straight errors to start a 5-0 run that pushed the Bison into a 23-11 cushion, all but sealing the 2-1 advantage.
 
The Bison yet again started a set on a 5-0 run, this time in the fourth set. Despite Rivier's constant push to try to tie the match, Nichols remained in front and earned a 25-17 set win to sweep the day.
 
Mercado and Soracco each recorded 10 kills, hitting at .381 and .421 clips, respectively. Harasyko (.455) recorded 7 kills with just 2 errors on 11 swings while Dylan Knapp put away six kills hitting at a .417 percentage.
 
Nichols hit at a .323 team percentage while limiting Rivier to a mark of .118 on the afternoon.
 
Nichols combined for 40 digs in the victory, 10 of which came from Nicholas Basco.
 
The Bison recorded eight service aces, four coming off the hand of Urbanski, who also passed out 36 helpers.
