HARRISVILLE, R.I. – The Nichols women's hockey team dropped a highly-contested battle to Curry, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Levy Rink as both teams squared off in game two of the home-and-home series as part of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. With the loss, Nichols falls to 3-11-1 (1-8-0 CCC) while Curry jumps to 6-6-2 (4-3-2 CCC).
It would take over 21 minutes of action to see the first goal as Paige Bourgoin slipped a puck just past
Victoria Bakopanos to open the scoring for the Colonels.
Nichols would bookmark the period with a goal of its own, as
Avery Moriarty broke the puck out to
Melissa Montesi, who fed
Kaci Johnson on the right wing who sailed the puck past Soleil Archambeault to tie the game up at 1-1 heading into the second intermission.
Just over midway through the third, Curry would strike for its second goal, the eventual game-winning goal, as Tommi Nash lit the lamp for her first collegiate goal on a feed from Hannah Berkowitz to put the Colonels up for good.
Bakopanos made 42 saves in the setback. The Bison poured on 34 shots of their own with Archambeault turning aside 33.
Nichols returns to play in Biddeford, Maine on Friday, January 20 with a CCC tilt against the University of New England with puck drop from the Harold Alfond Forum slated for 7 p.m.
