Women’s Basketball Outlasts Wentworth, 89-79

BOSTON, Mass. – Fueled by a combined 57-point performance from Kiera Fernandes and Abrianna Vazquez, the Nichols women's basketball team earned a road Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory at Wentworth on Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium. With the team's second CCC victory of the season, Nichols advances to 3-10 (2-6 CCC) while Wentworth drops to 3-11 (0-8 CCC).

Fernandes boosted the Bison with 14 first half points on 6-of-10 shooting to give the visitors a slim 40-39 advantage at halftime.

Nichols started the second half with Fernandes and Alyvia Smith cashing in on two three-pointers to take a seven-point lead.

The Bison later held the largest lead of the contest at 75-57 with 7:57 to play following a pair of made Smith free-throws, giving Nichols an 18-point cushion.

Despite a late surge from the Leopards, the Bison fended off the push from the home team to pull away with the 10-point triumph.

Nichols stole the ball away from the Leopards 23 times, scoring 44 points off turnovers. The Bison won the points in the paint battle 52-40.
