BOSTON, Mass. – Fueled by a combined 57-point performance from
Kiera Fernandes and
Abrianna Vazquez, the Nichols women's basketball team earned a road Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory at Wentworth on Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium. With the team's second CCC victory of the season, Nichols advances to 3-10 (2-6 CCC) while Wentworth drops to 3-11 (0-8 CCC).
Fernandes boosted the Bison with 14 first half points on 6-of-10 shooting to give the visitors a slim 40-39 advantage at halftime.
Nichols started the second half with Fernandes and
Alyvia Smith cashing in on two three-pointers to take a seven-point lead.
The Bison later held the largest lead of the contest at 75-57 with 7:57 to play following a pair of made Smith free-throws, giving Nichols an 18-point cushion.
Despite a late surge from the Leopards, the Bison fended off the push from the home team to pull away with the 10-point triumph.
Nichols stole the ball away from the Leopards 23 times, scoring 44 points off turnovers. The Bison won the points in the paint battle 52-40.
The Bison return to home court on Monday, January 16 with a non-conference battle with NVU-Johnson with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. at the Nichols Athletic Center.
