Women’s Volleyball Bests Fisher in Four Sets

BOSTON, Mass. – Behind strong performances from freshman setter Kya Burdier (20 assists) and sophomore outside Luna Colozzo (14 kills), the Nichols women's volleyball team earned a four-set victory at Fisher in its first road match of the season on Thursday night at Pappas Gymnasium.

The Bison (5-0), who hosted Fisher (3-2) in the season-opener just a week ago, traveled to face the Falcons, marking the first time the team had played outside of the friendly confines of the Nichols Athletics Center.

Nichols jumped out to a 1-0 lead following the first set, earning a 25-23 win. The first game was tightly contested, as there were five lead changes. The Bison led by as much as four points at 24-20 following a Sydney Ball service ace, but conceded three straight points before freshman Ruby St. Onge beat the block off a Burdier set to finalize the first set.

In the second frame, the Bison couldn't pull away from the hosts, despite holding the lead on three occasions. Fisher used a balance attack to take the second set, 25-22, with five different Falcons registering eight kills.

Nichols used two kills from Colozzo, along with errors on the other side of the net, to jump out to a 7-2 set three lead. The Bison led by as much as six at 13-7 before the Falcons rattled off four-straight points to cut the deficit to two. Fisher battled to remain within three points of Nichols before junior middle Ryley Plourde sent a ball back on a block, to take the third game, 25-21.

Graduate student Jayleen Fegan rattled off four-serves in a row, including an ace on the fourth in the sequence, boosting Nichols to a 12-5 lead in the fourth set. From there, the Bison never looked back, en route to a convincing 25-18 match-clinching win.

Nichols, who advanced to 5-0 for the first time in program history, will remain on the road for Saturday's action at a tri-match hosted by Fitchburg St., taking on both the home team and Curry, beginning at 11 p.m.
