Women's Volleyball Flys by Falcons

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Nichols women's volleyball program extended their record-breaking start to the season, sweeping Fitchburg State, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Parkinson Gymnasium.

The Bison (6-0) traded points with the Falcons (1-2) in the first set before the Falcons rattled off a 7-2 run to bring the score to 20-13 in their favor. Nichols responded with a 12-2 run of their own to end the set at 25-22. Sophomore Luna Colozzo accounted for three kills on the run, including the point to end the set.

The second set remained close until the Bison went on an 8-1 scoring run to give themselves an 18-9 lead. Freshman Ruby St. Onge went on a six-service point run during that time, surviving a timeout call by the Falcons halfway through. The final point of the set came on a St. Onge service ace.

Sophomore Riley Plourde recorded four kills in the third set for the Bison, while freshman Sydney Ball racked up two service aces. The Falcons seven attack errors proved to be the difference in the set.

St. Onge and classmate Kya Burdier combined for 30 assists in the match. Junior Liz Diorio, graduate student Jayleen Fegan, and Burdier each recorded double-digit digs.
