PAXTON, Mass. – The Nichols field hockey program moved to 3-1 on the season Wednesday night as they snuck by Anna Maria, 2-1.
Graduate student
Dana Edwards opened the scoring on the night with less than a minute remaining in the first half. The Bison were awarded a penalty corner, and a perfect insert by sophomore
Emily LeBlanc set Edwards up for the strike.
A bad pass by Anna Maria (0-3) at the start of the third quarter found the stick of freshman
Merle Steinau, who promptly passed it to Edwards for the game-winning goal.
The AmCats cut the lead in half eight minutes later but would not score again in the match.
After recording seven saves in the victory, senior goalkeeper
Megan Fuchs now leads the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in the category with 30. Edwards eight points and Steinau's two assists on the year put them in a tie for first in the Conference ranks.
The Bison return home to Vendetti Field Saturday, September 10, to face Wheaton (MA) at 1:00 p.m.
